MARITAL ADJUSTMENT AMONG EARLY, AGE-APPROPRIATE ARRANGED AND LOVE-MATCHED MARRIAGE, MOTTA, NORTH WEST ETHIOPIA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was attempted to compare marital adjustment of early, age-appropriate arranged and love-matched married individuals. Two hundred ten married individuals were selected through purposive sampling technique. The findings showed that there was statistically significant marital adjustment difference among early, age-appropriate arranged and love-matched married individuals. Similarly, statistically significant differences were found among the three study groups on the four dimensions of marital adjustment (consensus, satisfaction, cohesion, affection expression). Concerning sex difference in marital adjustment, early married males had significantly higher marital adjustment than their counter females. Besides, early married males were significantly higher than females only on satisfaction and affection expression dimensions. Moreover, age-appropriate arranged married males were significantly higher only on affection expression dimension than female counter parts. Most importantly, marital adjustment was positively and significantly related to age at marriage but negatively and insignificantly related to the length of marriage and the number of children.   Â
